This project invites students to explore the art of lighting design within the context of Vietnamese culinary culture. Inspired by the poetic use of edible flowers in Vietnamese cuisine, Màu Hoa—which means “Color of Flowers”—celebrates the sensory richness of Vietnam’s natural beauty, culinary traditions, and cultural identity.
Set in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf, a district known for its seafood, Màu Hoa reimagines Vietnamese seafood cuisine with a contemporary twist. By incorporating local ingredients and floral motifs, the lighting design enhances the visual and emotional experience, creating a multisensory atmosphere that appeals to both tourists and locals. This project emphasizes how lighting can evoke not only the colors and textures of food, but also the cultural narratives behind them—turning a meal into an immersive journey.
